Adidas Superstar 35th Anniversary
In 2005, Adidas released a whole series of Superstars to celebrate the 35th anniversary. 35 pairs were released, some in very limited numbers making them highly collectable. The range was broken down into four parts - Consortium Series, Expression Series, Music Series, City Series and finally the Anniversary Series. The range featured many collaborations including pairs with Disney, RunDMC, Ian Brown, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and many more.
Adidas Superstar Adicolor
The Adicolor concept is basically a shoe you can customize yourself using various tools. Adidas released the first Adicolors in 1983 as plain white shoes which came with waterproof markers or acrylic paints. A pair of Superstar Adicolors were amongst the 35th Anniversary Series which were pure white and came with various different laces and pens. These were released in small numbers and are very rare today. In 2006 Adidas re-released the Adicolor range, this time with more styles, more features and even some clothing. The new features included interchangeable stripes, lace jewels, spray paint and more. The range was broken into seven parts - White, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Pink, and Black Series. Adidas made two Superstars for each colour so altogether 14 pairs were released as well as all the other styles in the series.
Adidas Superstar Special Edition
Over the years Adidas have released various special edition Superstars, all with themes. The themes vary but are usually based on world events or dates in the calender. Some of the memorable ones include the Halloween Superstar, the Dice Superstar, the Darth Vader Superstar and more recently the Olympic Series Superstars which were released during the Beijing Olympics of 2008.
Adidas Superstar II Vintage
The vintage range are re-released Superstars from the 70's. The majority of them are pairs which were popular with NBA stars and have recently been re-issued. They all have the original features so you'll notice the old style shell piece and off-white detailing, giving them a retro look.
Adidas Superstar Skate
The original Adidas Superstars were designed and used for sports. Over the years Adidas have released newer shoes designed specifically for certain sports which left the older styles to be worn more casually, the Superstar being a classic example. Adidas have now designed a new range of Superstars but this time they're designed for skateboarding. They look very similar to a regular Superstar but they are slightly wider, they have toughened areas such as scratch proof leather (or suede), and a double stitched sole at the front. This makes them much stronger and ideal for taking the extra strain they will have to take.
Adidas Superstar & Run-DMC
In 1983 the Hip-Hop trio, Run-DMC started wearing Adidas Superstars on stage and in a way used them as part of their act. They even released a track called 'My Adidas' which spread worldwide and helped to make Adidas Superstars so popular with urban music and its surrounding cultures - breakdancing, graffiti etc. Run-DMC proved to be perfect promotion for Adidas so eventually they signed a one million dollar deal with the group and released the first line of endorsed clothing. From here onwards Adidas Superstars spread and became more and more popular not only in the US but worldwide.
